Angels Gallery

I was invited by Stuart Gould of 'Stables in Exile' Gallery to produce some new work for St Catherine's Church. I have long been inspired by Gabriel García Márquez's story - 'A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings' (pub 1955), so I chose to paint a series of angels.

Angels are present in three of the world's great religions and are seen as mediators between the visible and invisible worlds. They are able to take human form yet have wings, they have human compassion yet super-human powers. Folklore warns us to "be careful how you treat a stranger, they may be an angel." Read the full story below.

Each of these images is available singly or you can purchase the set. They are limited edition, signed, giclee prints. Please contact Yana for more details.

The Wingmaker’s Story

The Story: Something foments in the clouds above the inner city at sunset. We hear a strange sound. We see a winged being hover near the Temple, passing the seamstress working at her lit window. The black cat sees it all. At the city gate a great crowd of desperate refugees approaches seeking sanctuary. They’ve escaped war and famine and beg for help. The angel slumps down in despair, then remembers the seamstress and has an idea…. The angel flies up to her window and she looks up and says ‘What took you so long, I’ve been expecting you for some time.’ She shows him her magical creations - wings of freedom that give them entry to a happier world.
